Hey guys,
Just a fun post to get this blog started. I have so many things I could write about- leave a comment below if there's something you're interested in!
For now, here are a few tips & tricks for when you're out painting the town...
- Want fast service? Sit at the bar. Servers are assigned to sections and tables and who knows when they'll be by. Sit at the bar and within a minute you've got a menu and glass of water in front of you. Also, servers aren't always nearby when you need something- Uh oh, your food came out but you didn't get that infamous side of ranch for your fries! You can either wait for your server to come by to check on you, OR you can sit at the bar and just flag down the bartender.
- Couldn't finish your meal? Let the server or bartender know you can box it up yourself. I've seen too many servers bring dishes to the back to box up but don't have the time to, uh, properly transfer the food to the To Go box, and end up using their hands or something nearby to get the job done. Not saying that everyone does it, but I don't take that chance and always box my food up myself. Plus, you're giving your server or bartender one less thing to do, which is always appreciated in the industry.
- Always check your receipt to see if there was an "Automatic Gratuity" added. For large parties there usually is an 18-20% auto-grad on a check, but I've worked at a couple restaurants where there would be an automatic 20% on your tab, regardless of price or number of customers. Some servers or bartenders won't tell you there's an auto-grad because they are hoping you are blindly swiping your card and give them an additional tip on top of the auto-grad. It's slimy, but it happens.
- Do you drink a lot of water? That's not a bad thing! I have a friend that drinks a ton of water but when we'd go out she'd have a glass or two only, because she felt bad that her server or bartender had to keep refilling her glass. No need to feel bad! Just ask us for a larger glass OR ask us to leave a water pitcher at the table or bartop.
